Meet Celaena Sardothien.
Beautiful. Deadly.
Destined for greatness.
In the dark, filthy salt mines of Endovier, an eighteen-year-old girl is serving a life sentence. She is a trained assassin, the best of her kind, but she made a fatal mistake. She got caught.
Young Captain Westfall offers her a deal: her freedom in return for one huge sacrifice. Celaena must represent the prince in a to-the-death tournament—fighting the most gifted thieves and assassins in the land. Live or die, Celaena will be free. Win or lose, she is about to discover her true destiny. But will her assassin’s heart be melted?
I really enjoyed this book. Celaena was a great main character. She grew well with the book and I enjoyed how she slowly grew to trust people.
The setting was fantastic, reminded me of The Study series, well the fist book anyway. I loved the challenges, apart from the first one, I felt it was too easy and not creative enough, but once we got to more I soon forgot about it.
The Prince was an enigma, he was a womaniser but wanted a loyal marriage. Just seems very contradictory. He was a good character and liked the very parts which were from his POV.
Chaol was my favourite character. He was smart, funny, a real charmer and was loyal to the end. Even though he had some very had choices to make. I cannot wait to see more of him in the next book.
I am very much looking forward to seeing how things turn out in the next book. I think there is lots of potential and if I wasn’t trying to pace myself to spread the joy of reading a good book I would have picked it up already.
