the worst witch and the wishing star

In the first story from Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches in 6 years Mildred Hubble is about to learn to be careful what you wish for…

Mildred, notoriously the worst witch at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches, makes a wish on a shooting star – and to her great surprise it comes true! But it also spells trouble.

Mildred’s wish-come-true is a small dog but she has to keep him a secret from her friends, and especially the formidable Miss Hardbroom.

It’s a disaster waiting to happen… And it does…!
The last one in the series, what a shame, I wish there was a few more, the way the pattern was going there could be at least 3 more. Anyway, like the rest of this series this book did not disappoint. Not too much magic happens in them other than flying broomsticks and people getting turned into animals, but I don’t mind much, the writing has a magic to it. All the characters you know and love are back. Miss Hardbroom, seems to have a soft spot for Mildred even if she would never admit it.

Star is amazing, so cute, I really wish I had a dog like that. I honestly don’t know why everyone doubts Millie so much, she always comes through in the end. Also should teachers be allowed to call a student “the worst witch” in front of them, a bit cruel.

Jill Murphy if you ever decide to write more worst witch books I will buy them 🙂

5 out of 5 stars.

the worst witch to the rescue

All I will say is – prepare to be astounded! Mildred Hubble has always been the worst witch at Miss Cackle’s Academy, but she just knows this term will be different. She’s done the best holiday project ever and she’s sure that her form teacher, the fearsome Miss Hardbroom, will be impressed. Even her arch-enemy, Ethel Hallow, is being friendly to her! But is it all too good to be true – will disaster strike again for the Worst Witch? Mildred may be the worst witch at the academy but she’s the best friend you could ever have. Millions of readers love her. And so will you . . .
This was the best one so far in the series. Mildred finally showing her potential and with animals, I was racing to the end, when I would find out how out worked out for clever Milly. It’s a shame when even your friends are unsure whether or not to believe you. Ethel finally got what she deserved, she is the real trouble maker after all. Mildred never seems to get her into trouble even when it is all her fault.
Once again Mildred is just trying to do the right thing and it only gets her into trouble, she is nice to her friends and tries her best not to lie. All in all, a good role model to young girls.
5 out of 5 stars (If could give more I would).

the worst witch saves the day

Something is up at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches: Mildred Hubble’s new form teacher is really weird. Or is she? Investigating isn’t easy, especially when Mildred’s potions go wrong, the class know-it-all insists on being ‘helpful’ and her beloved cat is having a nervous breakdown…
Year 3 at Cackle’s Academy and Mildred is up to her old tricks, she is just trying to help out. I like how she always manages to get in to lots of trouble but still has the guts to save the day even though she could get into worse trouble if it goes wrong. I am still really enjoying the story, I am storming through the books. I don’t think I would ever get bored if they were all to this standard. I loved the story with the hair it was very funny to read and made me smile. As much as H.B. is stern she is one of my favourite characters, she does care for the girls deep down, even though she very rarely shows it.

5 out of 5 stars.

the worst witch all at sea

Loveable but accident-prone Mildred Hubble is possibly the worst witch ever to go to Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches… Mildred is in deep water on the school trip. This title is a story of life at a magical boarding school.
Just like the rest of the books in the series, this book flowed well and was quick paced. It was full of fun and I love Mildred, she may be the worst witch at Cackle’s Academy but she doesn’t want to be, she does try her best. I think it’s a good lesson for children reading these books.
I really enjoyed how it was in a different setting this time, it was well written and Mildred has 9 lives. Ethel really needs to give up on trying to ruin Mildred’s life, it’s fun to see her jealous all the time though.

Review: A Bad Spell for the Worst Witch

a bad spell for the worst witch

Mildred’s good intentions in the second year are upset when she finds that Miss Hardbroom is to be her form teacher again. She clashes once again with Ethel who turns her into a frog, whilst later on she rescues an enchanted magician.
What a wonderful book, I loved the storyline, poor Mildred, it wasn’t her fault. I was a really clever idea that I lapped up, once again I read the book in less than half an hour. There really does seem to be a lot of people being changed into creatures at the school. I wonder if Miss Hardbroom, changed classes so she could keep an eye on Mildred? Miss Cackle was not in this one which I missed. Ethel really is an evil girl, wonder how no-one else is noticing? I am glad Enid and Maud are friends now.
I am looking forward to the next one 🙂

Review: The Worst Witch Strikes Again

the worst witch strikes again

Mildred is put in charge of the new girl Enid Nightshade with disastrous results, and Ethel gets up to her mean tricks again at Miss Cackle’s birthday celebration.

Jill Murphy does it again, another amazing story. It’s full of fun and things going wrong. The reasons I gave it four stars instead of five was that there was not quite enough magic for me. Also not enough happened, I know it’s a children’s book and it’s less that 100 pages long, but I wanted more, it felt a little too much like a T.V. episode. Saying that it was great I really love the characters and read it in about 20 minutes. I still love the pictures, as an adult it’s not often I read books with pictures and I have to say the really added to the story for me.

If you loved this T.V. series as a kid or just want a fun filled magical story about a witch that’s not very good at magic, then this series is for you.

Four out of Five stars.

the worst witch

The Worst Witch by Jill Murphy

Mildred Hubble is a trainee witch at Miss Cackle’s Academy, and she’s making an awful mess of it. She’s always getting her spells wrong and she can’t even ride a broomstick without crashing it. Will she ever make a real witch?

I remember watching this everyday after school, I loved it. I did not realise it was a book series. I am so glad it is though. I asked for this via netgalley but they denied my request so I bought it  straight away. I read it in one sitting, well it is only 100pages long.

It transported me back to my child hood. I loved all of it. I was pleased to see all the characters I knew and loved were there. Especially Miss Bat, I love her, she is such a funny character. The pictures were good, I do not know whether they have been redone since the T.V. program, or if the people on the T.V. show did a great job of getting actors that look very like the characters. It really added to story.

The book is aimed at children, but I still loved it as an adult. I would definitely buy these for my future children.

5 out of 5 stars.
