This is hosted by the Broke and the Bookish. This weeks theme is Books set outside of the US. I love the idea, I will read a book no matter where it’s set so looking forward to doing this one.

  1. forbidden territoryThis book is a guilty pleasure of mine, it’s sweet, got a little danger in it and it’s set in Australia.
  2. tangled websA book set in London, I found it sweet and interesting. I LOVE the cover, so simple yet so eye catching.
  3. lions in the garden This book was a little outside of my comfort zone but I really enjoyed it. It’s set in Bohemia which we now know as Czech Republic. Well worth the read.
  4. heart of ice This very unique book is set in Iceland, I only gave it three stars because there was too much romance in it for me. But the rest was really good.
  5. silkThis book is set in London just before Jack the Ripper, really interesting read. My main complaint was that it said it was about Jack the Ripper but it wasn’t it was set a few months before and he was only mentioned at the end, other than that a really great read.
  6. worlds of ink and shadow This book is set in Yorkshire, I haven’t yet finished it but it’s a really interesting read the Bronte siblings. Very different than anything else I have read.
  7. doon This is another book that I haven’t yet finished but really enjoyed the start, it’s set in Scotland.
  8. the silver witch This book is set in Wales and was a very great recent read. I loved how it switched time lines and the suspense was amazing.
  9. the silent ones Another book set in England. A thriller that kept me guessing until the end.

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Broke and Bookish. This weeks topic is the ten most recent books purchased. I have been very lax in taking part in these but this one, I could not resist. So in no particular order ….

1. the woman in black

I have been wanting to read this for a while and I saw it in the bookshop I volunteer in, so I could not resist. I had to buy it.

2. longbourn

Not my usual kind of book, but it looked amazing so thought it was worth a try.

3. winterkillwinterkill2

The first one is the cover I got in a second hand book shop. I added the second one because when I was looking for it on goodreads to add link, I realised I had asked for it on Netgalley but was declined. Oh well I still get to read it.

4. the reader

Looks like an interesting read, I have heard the film is good, so thought I would try the book first.

5. a secret alchemy

I have a fascination with the two princes in the tower and since this is the main topic of this book, I had to snap it up. Unfortunately when I just looked at goodreads, it has a rating just under 3 stars, but I am still hoping for good things.

6. the poison diaries

I love the look of this book. It was a chance find right before I left a fantastic massive bookstore. I am very much looking forward to reading it.

7. the blackstone key

It’s the cover’s fault I was too weak and had to buy it. Oh well it looks really good. I cannot wait to read it.

8. the secret scripture

I have been wanting to read this for a while, just not gotten around to buying it. I had actually forgotten about it. It was a chance find. I am glad I did and looking forward to reading it.

9. the witch trade

I bought this for a light read on holiday, didn’t start it until the plane home, but so far it’s pretty good, will hopefully finish it soon.

10. the taste of apple seeds

This is another I wouldn’t normally read but there was something about it that drew me in. Will have to start it soon. 🙂

Have you read any of these books? Are they good? What books have you bought lately?

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This weeks theme is books on your winter to be read list. I am not promising I will manage to get through all of these but I can try. Half the list will be from Netgalley, trying to keep up. In no particular order;

1. The Bell Between Worlds

bell between worlds

This looks really intriguing. Love the cover, hope the book is as good.

2. The Midnight Witch

the midnight witch

This is from netgalley and I am quite excited about reading it. Looks really good.

3. butterfly summer

This is not the kind of book I normally read but it intrigued me. And once again a gorgeous cover.

4. red rose white rose

It’s been a while since I have read a good historical fiction book, hope this one will hold my attention.

5.torment

I still need to reread fallen, but I am really looking forward to reading this. 🙂

6. when

The idea of this book intrigues me greatly. Cannot wait until I get to read this.

7. the thief

I have actually already started this and is really good so far 🙂

8. the vanishing witch

Love Karen Maitland, cannot wait to read more of her books.

9. antebellum awakening

I loved the first book in the series, just waiting for a day when I can sit and read it from cover to cover.

10. the forgotten cottage

I haven’t read the first two in the series but I hope it should be fine. Looks like a good mystery book.

What books are on your winter reading list?

Top Ten Tuesdays are a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This weeks theme is characters you wish had their own book. I love the idea of this topic.

1. Cam from the Hex Hall series. I really liked him as a character and I he was very quiet, I would love to hear it from his point of view.

hex-hall-trilogy

2. Kit from Frost Hollow Hall, it would be good to see more about his life before he died.

frost hollow hall

3. I know a few people have said this character but he was the first person I thought of when I saw this topic. Neville from the Harry Potter series. I think it would make a great series to see it from his point of view.

harry potter and the half blood prince

4. Deacon’s POV from the Book of Deacon, I think there’s a little in the third book, but I would like to know more about his life before.

book of deacon series

5. Tomas for the Testing, I still do not fully trust him, I want to know if Cia is right about him.the testing

6. Noah from Frost Arch, it’s a long time since I read this, about time I do a reread. I would like to hear it from Noah’s POV, since he comes such a different background than the main character it would be a good read.

frost arch

7. The Dark Lord from the mistborn series. It would be great to know what was going on from his side. the final empire

8. Daniel from Fallen. It would be nice to know more about him, I have only read the first book, so I hope to find out more in the second.

fallen

9. Leta from Miss Mabel’s School for girls, it would be great to see how she thinks and how she sees the world?

miss mabel's school for girls

10. McGonnagal from the Harry Potter series, you would get to know many characters much better and see what went on at the school the seventh year.

Beautiful cover, set in Scotland and fantasy, what more could I ask?

4. falling kingdoms

This one I have seen around for a while, I love the cover, very intriguing.

5.lonely souls

Heard really good things about it, looks really good 🙂

6.forbidden

Looks like it had everything I could want in a vampire series. Really looking forward to reading it.

7. bell between worlds

Love the cover and it looks like a very unique children’s story. Someone recommended it to me a year or so ago, not sure why I still have not read it.

8.  dead jealous

I have been getting into books like this more and more. Hope this one is as good as the others I have read.

9. luxe

Top ten tuesdays is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, this weeks topic is on underrated books. I have not participated for a long time, but this was one topic I have made sure to contribute too.

1. city of the sun

This is by far one of my favourite books, it is complex and extremely well written. I would love more people to read this book.

2. the last academt

This has had some bad reviews but I really enjoyed it and have read it a few times, enjoying it more with each read.

3. the emerald atlas

A charming fun read full of adventure.

4. eternal-eden-cover

Not for some, very like Twilight but I love it.

5. don't even think about it

Fun, creative. I cannot wait for the next one.

6. stolen songbird

Trolls, a new take on trolls, was really really good.

7. miss mabel's school for girls

The best book I have read in a long time.

8. first impression

Really good YA book. It was interesting of full of intrigue.

9. forbidden territory

Not the usual kind of thing I read, but I loved every page, could not put it down.

10.the grove of the sun

A complex intriguing story that takes the reader on a fantastic journey.

Top Ten Tuesdays is hosted by Broke and Bookish, this weeks topic is  worlds you would not like to live in, or characters you would not like to swap places with. I have seen some really good answers.

1. Panem and the districts (Hunger Games) – Well who would want to live there? Most people in the districts are starving and the people in the Capitol are monsters.

2. Mordor (Lord of the Rings)- Some of the other parts of Middle-earth, like Rivendale and the Shire, I would love.

3. Ixia (Poison Study)- Too many rules, even accidental deaths are not allowed and someone is sent to death for it. Wouldn’t mind living in Sitia though.

4. Lethe Academy (The Last Academy) –If you read the book you will understand why, so not want to spoil it.

5. Scientist’s Pod (Anomaly) –If I was being tested on and thinking I was going to be annihilated I would not like it very much, not allowed any emotions either would not be fun.

6. Perdido Beach (Gone) – With all adults gone and no way in or out, and people developing new powers, that’s got to be scary.

7. England 1321 (The Owl Killers) – An amazing book, but seriously scary stuff, The Owl Masters are seriously messed up men.

8. Inkworld (Inkspell) – Two many messed up characters to deal with, all the baddies you can think of are there, not my idea of happiness.

9. Frost Arch (The Fire Mage Trilogy) –Where people with no magic are slaves or worse, I do not think it would be a good place for me since I have no magical power.

10. Forks (Twilight) – It seems to be a hot spot for vampires and not juts the vegetarian ones,  not a good place to live.

What worlds would you hate to live in?

Top Ten Tuesdays is hosted by Broke and Bookish, this weeks topic is ten things you would like to see more of in books.

1. Magic– I know there is loads but love reading about all different kinds of magic, can never get enough.

2. Boarding schools – Like Harry Potter and Hex Hall, there is a dynamic that is set by staying at the school.

3. Friendships – This may seem obvious but I like it when characters have strong friendships that can survive anything.

4. Family –As a lot of people have been saying, family in YA especially is not a big thing, I think it should be more.

5. Sweet Relationships- I want couples to hold hands, laugh at each others jokes, have some romance, it all seems to be about kissing and sex, I remember getting such a rush as a teenager from my hand being held, being cuddled. I think it should show more in books.

6. Pirates- I love Pirates want to read more about them, enough said.

7. Bad-ass female characters – Like Hermione and Katniss and Tris, okay there a few but there should be more, always more.

8. Girls who are not into clothes and make-up – I want to read about a girl who is not a tomboy but doesn’t really care for make-up, why does it have to be girly girl or tomboy?

9. Youngsters who aspire to be great – I may be wrong, but I have not really read many books where the youngsters are trying to be doctors, lawyers etc.

10. J.K.Rowling – I just want more, she is a fantastic writer and I want more 🙂

What do you want more of in books?

This meme is hosted by the broke and the bookish. This weeks post of Winter reading list. I do not have many if any winter themed books, so I will just be stating ten books I plan to read over the next few months before Spring is sprung.  Choosing ten books only is going to be the challenge.

1. in falling snow

I found one with a winter theme so I thought I would give it a bash soon and be festive.

2. taste of darkness

I have this as an ARC, and it’s out at the end of this month so I probably start this very soon, looking forward to it. Loved the first two in the series.

3. the iron king

Been wanting to read this for a while but it was at the bottom of a very large pile, since the pile has now fallen it has been removed safely and put aside for reading very shortly.

4. the holders

Is there more to say than it looks great?

5. the madea complex

I saw this on someone else’s blog a while ago and decided that I had to read it.

6. ????????????????????

Fantasy and mystery, what more could I want?

7. new world order

I read the first three in the series a while and had to stop to read other books, cannot wait to pick this book back up again.

8. Romulus Buckle & the City of the Founders lg

Never read steampunk but it intrigues me greatly.

9. the selection

I have heard great things about this book, cannot wait to get started.

10. dragon defender

DRAGONS!!! 😀 😀

What books are you reading this winter? Have you read any of these are they any good?

Top Ten Tuesday: covers to redesign

13 Wednesday Nov 2013

Posted by bookgeeking in Tuesday's Top Ten

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, this weeks theme is covers you’d like to redesign. Now there are many covers that I won’t even take a second glance at, terrible I know, but sometimes you do have to judge a book by it’s cover. I know it’s late (as it’s now Wednesday), but I did not have time yesterday.

1. heaven high

It’s okay, there is nothing terrible about it, I still want to read it, I just think it could be so much better.

2. The last priestess

I really do not like the look of this book, not a fan of CGI people on covers.

3. eternal-eden-coverfallen edenunited eden

There’s just something off about these, especially the second one, why does she look like a corpse? The series is amazing though, so they are almost forgiven.

4. Abarat_book_cover

There is just too much going on, not nice at all.

5. the grey elk

Just hurts my eyes, I cannot explain why I don’t like it, I just find it hard the eyes.

6. walking in shadows

A Picture of a gate for the cover? This close up it looks horrible, not a fan, even the writing does not seem to fit.

7. enchantment

The girl looks creepy, and yes I know the main love interest is fan of bikes but it adds nothing to the cover.

8. theathenaeffect

When I first saw this cover I thought it had been written in the 80’s, I was written only a few years ago, so why the cover that reminds me of an 80’s sitcom?

9. HolesCoverholes

These are both for the same book, the first one is horrible. The second is better I would read it because of the second  one, but not because of the second.

10. before i go to sleep 2

I know it’s a physiological thriller but this cover is just creepy. Amazing book though.
